There’s no company in the print and signage industry that has such a diverse portfolio of market leading products, as Epson.
From print solutions for wide format graphics, textiles and fashion, home and office print technology, labels and packaging, monochrome printing and image projection technology, Epson has developed market leaders in each category. Which is why events such as the ‘Productivity and Efficiency Showcase’ are well worth attending, especially for industry professionals looking to the future.
For those working with textiles, Epson displayed several machines including the newly released Epson SureColor F3060. The printer features dual printhead technology and a bulk ink system, providing low ink cost and minimised waste compared to cartridge systems. At the showcase, the Epson team noted that the F3060 is designed to provide low total cost of ownership, as well as reliability for exceptional performance and savings in high-production print shop environments.
The new printer can produce a full-sized shirt in about a minute, allowing for hundreds of shirts per day, and is being pitched at mid-to-large size garment printers looking for a high-production and cost-effective solution. It can print in full colour plus white on cotton, linen, rayon, and a variety of other fabric types, using a new dual 2.6-inch PrecisionCore printhead for one-pass printing at production speeds, and can house 1.5 litres per colour and three litres of white ink for less frequent filling, lower operating costs, and less waste.
The Showcase also highlighted the capabilities of the SureColor F9460H, the company’s fourth generation dye-sub system that combines a fast and reliable roll-to-roll production engine with a reduced running cost and fluorescent ink capability. The SC-F9460H combines Epson Precision Dot Technology, with advanced media management and UltraChrome DS HDk ink to enable outstanding image quality at high speed.
For wide-format specialists, Epson was showing the SureColor S80660L high-quality signage production system. The printer is designed to produce durable images with maximum impact and format flexibility, quickly, easily, and at minimum cost. It suits operation with a medium to high production volume and a structured workflow. Printed work dries quickly for same-day job turnaround, while the high capacity media and ink supply systems enable efficient roll-to-roll production with remote status monitoring and reporting.
Epson also leads the way with its desktop label printers, and making its debut was the ColorWorks C6010/ C6510 4’ and 8” commercial desktop label printers. The unit on displayed had only just arrived in the country. These systems have been designed for short-run print jobs and provide excellent usability for a range of applications. They are perfect for businesses that require speed, quality and reliability. The CW-C6010 can support media widths of 25.4mm to 112 mm and the CW-C6510 from 25.4mm to 215.9mm. They can print anything from tiny labels for eyedropper bottles, to large durable labels suitable for chemical drums. This media flexibility and on-demand digital four colour print (even with small label sizes) will make life easier for time-sensitive businesses with many SKUs to manage.
Other label printers on display included the ColorWorks C3500 and the ColorWorks C7500 that is aimed at customers who want durable prints and who primarily want to print onto matte media, the C7500 is the ultimate in short-run colour label printing. Manufacturers can now reliably and cost-effectively meet their in-house labelling needs with outstanding speed and quality.
There was plenty more to see from Epson, this includes their amazing projectors that deliver video quality that do (excuse the pun) have to be seen, to be believed.
There’s more to come from Epson. With Visual Impact Gold Coast coming up, the company has plenty to show and offer industry professionals looking for a competitive edge.

It’s been an exciting couple of years for Hexis Australia, and now the company is set to celebrate its growth and expansion, and the visit of its international CEO, with its first-ever Open House event later this month at its Queensland headquarters in Yatala.
The facility, which comprising a direct subsidiary warehouse and distribution centre, was opened just two years ago and, since then, the company has achieved strong brand recognition in the digital print and vinyl supplies markets in Australia.
A growing sales force with broad industry knowledge has allowed the company to establish strong relationships with print and sign service providers, providing a comprehensive suite of product solutions and advice.
“Hexis has a consultative mission statement,” says Ian Parsonson, Managing Director of Hexis Australia. “Our objective is to listen first, and then discuss the projects at hand before advising on product options, whether that be sign vinyls and wrapping films, other digital print media, protective laminates or textile films. It’s all driven by our customer’s requirements.”
This month, with CEO Clement Mateu visiting from the company’s international headquarters in Frontingnan, France, Parsonson says it’s the ideal time to throw open the doors and invite the industry’s decision-makers to see the very latest options first-hand.
“Last year, Hexis celebrated 30 years in the industry and Clement is keen to celebrate that milestone here, and to meet with our Australian partners and discuss local industry trends,” he says.
“We’ll be launching a brand new product at the Open House, running live production demos showing how HEX’Perience decoration can help build profitable new revenue streams and showcasing Flex Customise for textile demos, and much more,” he says, adding that Hexis Australia’s team of trainers and product experts will be on hand to discuss all the options with visitors.
“We’ll also be putting on plenty plenty of food and drinks, including our own Hexis Energy Drink,” he adds.
Parsonson says all are welcome to the event, which promises to be a relaxed afternoon to catch up with the Hexis team, discuss business requirements, have a tour of the Hexis Australia facilities and, of course, meet Mateu.
The Hexis Australia Open House will be held from 1pm – 5pm on Tuesday 25 February at the company’s offices at 2/25 Aliciajay Circult, Yatala, Queensland. The company will also be exhibiting at Visual Impact at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre from 30 April – 2 May.

The flagship product moving forward is sure to be the version 2 FB8000 Pro which is an automated digital cutting system, that fulfils the needs of higher volume production users where unattended operation is the key. 11 February 2020
Agfa announced a new addition to its large-format inkjet printer assortment. The Oberon RTR3300 is a dedicated 3.3 m high-end roll-to-roll machine that combines extreme productivity and quality with an extensive media scope and a unique ease of use.
The new Oberon RTR3300 comes in a four colour plus white, and a six colour version, depending on user needs and preferences. In ‘express mode’, the Oberon RTR3300 hits an impressive 150 m²/h, while still delivering Agfa’s well-known exceptional image quality. In ‘production mode’, the Oberon reaches a consistent 85 m² per hour. The dual-roll option is capable of handling two rolls each up to 1.6 meters wide, doubling the total output.
The UV LED inks on the Oberon RTR3300 were optimised for flexible media and excel in the smooth printing of solid colours. They obtained the highest category of Greenguard Gold certification, which means they meet some of the world’s most rigorous chemical emissions standards and can be used in sensitive indoor environments like schools or healthcare facilities.
Wide media scope
The Oberon RTR3300 covers significant media diversity and a wide range of applications, enabling print service providers to execute all their customers’ creative wishes, while also inspiring them to explore new directions.
In addition to its air-cooled LED curing lamps, the Oberon RTR3300 features a unique water-cooled table that keeps the printing zone at room temperature. Therefore, print service providers can smoothly process any kind of heat-sensitive roll material, including lower cost media.
The dedicated mesh printing functionality makes printing on mesh (with or without liner) more convenient than ever.
User-friendly, efficient and reliable
The Oberon RTR3300 was designed with a view to offering convenience, lean operations and peace of mind. Thanks to a unique media loading setup, a single operator can quickly load the media. The smart multi-queue functionality guarantees effortless job planning in view of the available materials. The free fall option, which may be used to print on demand, reduces media waste. A light box next to the printing area allows for on-the-spot quality inspection of backlit prints, while a double light curtain ensures that jobs don’t get interrupted and media wasted, even when an operator accidentally moves into the safety zone.
Taking printing to the Extreme
“When developing the Oberon, we once again focused on merging extreme productivity with extreme quality, in addition to delivering the lowest ink consumption levels and reduced overall operational costs. It is a position to give print service providers a competitive edge,” said Tom Vermeulen, Head of Sign & Display, Agfa. “This new engine builds on decades of experience in developing and manufacturing versatile large-format printing solutions. Our unique systems approach integrates and optimizes engine, ink, media, workflow and color management to ensure the highest quality, consistency and reliability.”
The Oberon RTR3300 will make its debut at the C!Print show (Lyon, France, 4-6 February 2020) and at FESPA (Madrid, Spain, 24-27 March 2020).

VersaWorks: Beyond the Basics has been developed to improve users’ knowledge of VersaWorks, increasing the efficiency and productivity of their output. After accrediting over 70 students in 9 sessions across the country last year, the course will be held nationally once again in 2020.
Since its inception in 2009, Roland DG’s VersaWorks training courses have been responsible for accrediting over 700 students. Over 95% of those surveyed have said that they would recommend the course to others and many more have given positive feedback on how relevant, informative and easy-to-understand the course is:
Shannon at IG Design Group said: "This is one of the better seminars I've participated in. I have a keen interest in the subject so I got a lot out of [the trainer’s] distinct knowledge and experience in the program and the usability of the printer".
Steve Wallis from Industrial Labelling Solution agreed that the course was very beneficial: "Very informative session. Well run, great detail. Certainly covered a lot of elements I had never looked at… awesome job."
Run by our expert Roland trainers, students will learn on Roland-supplied laptops in classes of 8 or less, with the trainer working closely with students to develop their skills and knowledge of the programs. The main areas covered in VersaWorks: Beyond the Basics are:

Working closely with Ben Allen, a contemporary artist focusing on graffiti and pop art prints, the new look was developed to reflect the lively vehicle wrapping community. Visitors to World Wrap Masters 2020 will be able to see live graffiti art demonstrations from Ben Allen on 24 – 26 March.
Neil Felton, CEO, FESPA comments: “We are excited to be hosting once again the European qualifier and final of World Wrap Masters 2020, where there will be a lot of top talent on display. It is very important for us to keep the competition fresh and exciting each year, which is why we felt it was time for a reinvigorated look and feel that was more representative of the global wrapping community. World Wrap Masters will be one of the most energetic and eye-catching features at FESPA Global Print Expo 2020 this year and one that visitors definitely shouldn’t miss!”
Vehicle wrappers still have the opportunity to apply to compete in the World Wrap Masters Europe competition, although spaces are limited. For more information and entry details visit: https://wrapmasters.fespa.com/events/world-wrap-masters-europe-2020

Our hugely popular TroLase engraving materials range has expanded to include TroLase Foil, a flexible, two-layer material featuring a micro-surfaced coating on an acrylic core. It comes with an adhesive backing and is also UV stable.
Available in a range of colours and finishes, TroLase Foil offers easy processing, minimal post-processing and is perfectly suited for indoor and outdoor labelling and signage applications.
Processing TroLase Foil
Thanks to its 0.2mm thickness, our new TroLase Foil range is incredibly versatile as it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. TroLase Foil offers excellent and detailed laser cutting and engraving results, with even large-scale engravings producing less waves than usual. Metallic colours, in particular, produce exceptional results when processed with a fiber laser source. A solid black engraving result is achieved without damaging the material surface.
TroLase Foil is an ideal material for "kiss-cutting", a process where the material is cut with a lower power so that the adhesive backing layer is untouched during processing.
This technique makes processing large quantities of labels effortless, as the finished label can be easily removed from the backing sheet.
TroLase Foil can also be used to add a metallic or gloss finish to products and applications. The tutorial below shows you how to create a wall decoration using various Trotec laser engraving materials, including TroGlass, Solid Wood, TroLase Foil and signage mounting devices.
